Gemstone Details:

Tanzanite is the rare and valuable blueish-violet variety of the mineral Zoisite.  Only mined in one major place on Earth, in the African State of Tanzania.  This beautiful blue gem was discovered in the year 1967 near the City of Arusha. The blue color is responsible from traces of vanadium within the crystal lattice.  Labeled as the Birthstone for the Month of December, this valuable stone earned its ranks as a collector's stone.  With a mineral hardness of a 5 to a 6 1/2, it is cautioned to be worn in impact jewelry such as rings and bracelets, but as pendants, earrings, and broaches, care isn't as needed when worn.
