Gemstone Details:
Peridot is the gemstone variety of the mineral Olivine. This beautiful olive-green colored gemstone is considered as a semi-precious stone. Although rare in larger sizes, smaller stones are more widely available. With the mineral hardness of a 6, it is fairly fragile and must be worn with care. It is the Birthstone for the month of August. The color responsible is do to the traces of iron within the crystal structure. Peridot only comes in one shade of green, and it is the oily olive green that is easily recognized.
