Gemstone Details:

The dark blood red variety of garnets represents the Month of January.  The second most common variety of garnets.  Pyrope Garnet has a mineral hardness of a 7 1/4, making it suitable for all types of jewelry.  In fact in ancient times it was used to ward off evil and to protect its wearer from dark forces.  Many think that garnets only comes in shades of red, but newly discovered Masasi Garnet proves that Garnets in general can come in every color of the rainbow, including color changing. The origin of the name "garnet" was thought to be from the name of the fruit with blood red kernels; the "pomegranate."  The color for this Garnet is due to traces of iron within the crystal structure.
