Gemstone Details:

The golden yellow, yellow orange, orange, orange-brown variety of the Quartz family. This warm colored semi-precious stone is known for giving its wearer good fortune.  An alternative Birthstone for the Month of November.  The origin of the name for this gemstone was derived from the French word for citrus, "citron," in reference to the colors.  Iron oxide embedded in the crystal lattice is responsible for Citrine's color.  It has the mineral hardness of a 7, which makes it durable enough for all types of jewelry.  In fact, most Citrine in the market is actually heated up Amethyst. A dark rich orangey golden brown variety of Citrine in the market is known as "Madeira Citrine."  This variety of Citrine is highly prized by collectors.
