Gemstone Details:

The beautiful wine to pinkish-red variety of garnets represents the Month of January.  The more commonly collected of garnets.  This species of Garnet is a hybrid of Pyrope and Almandine.  Rhodolite Garnet has a mineral hardness of a 7 1/2, making it suitable for all types of jewelry.  In fact in ancient times it was used to ward off evil and to protect its wearer from dark forces. These garnets are colored by traces of iron within the crystal structure. Many think that garnets only comes in shades of red, but newly discovered Masasi Garnet proves that Garnets in general can come in every color of the rainbow, including color changing.  Important sources of this gemstone is Mozambique in Africa, Idaho in the US, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka; the island off the coast of India.
