Gemstone Details:

Heliotrope is the opaque pine green variety of Jasper; unlike its counterpart "Bloodstone" (which is also a dark green, but with red splotches of iron oxide that resembles blood).  Heliotrope does not have any blotches of red iron oxide present.  Sometimes Heliotrope is mostly green with some brown tones present.  Although  common, it is a collectable stone for beginners, enthusiasts, and collectors alike.  In the Renaissance, Bloodstone and Heliotrope was the Birthstone for the month of March.  Now, it is a semi-precious stone often used in jewelry, and bead-work.
