Gemstone Details:
This beautiful icy blue Birthstone is for the Month of March. Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of the "Beryl" group; the very same group that its green sister, "Emerald" belongs to. In ancient times, Aquamarine was revered as a talisman for sailors to help ensure a safe journey in the wide open seas, and with that, Aquamarine is Latin (aqua marinus) for "water of the sea." This iconic blue gem has a mineral hardness of a 7 1/2, making it suitable for all kinds of jewelry. Its color is responsible for iron impurities within the crystal structure. There is a darker blue variety of Aquamarine known by the name, "Santa Maria." This variety of Aquamarine is highly prized by collectors.
