Gemstone Details:

A form of the mineral corundum.  Corundum is the second hardest mineral after that of Diamond.  Rubies are the pinkish red, red, to reddish-brown variety of corundum.  Known as a precious stone, this is also the Birthstone for the Month of July.  There are such types of Rubies that are little known to the market, those such as "Pigeon's Blood" (those that are a bright scarlet color with a blue saturation); and that of "Sunset Ruby," (rubies that are a bright intense red with a slight orange undertone).  Rubies have a mineral hardness of a 9, making it superior for all types of jewelry.  In ancient times, it was thought to protect the wearer from misfortune and to enhance love.
