Gemstone Details:

Petrified Wood is actually a type of fossil.  It was once an organic piece of wood that has become petrified over millions and millions of years.  It can come in many colors and species.  Even in some cases the mineral Opal will seep into cavities creating a variety known as Wood Opal.  A few known palaces in the United States has State Parks that holds such varieties.  In the southern State of Arizona, there is the Petrified Forest National Park, and in Washington State there is the Ginko Petrified Forest (in Vantage).  Petrified Wood is a highly collectable by both amateurs and veteran collectors alike. Some pieces can fetch up to thousands of dollars, and with it's beautiful colors and patterns, makes excellent pieces of jewelry and display pieces.  It has the mineral hardness of a 6.5 to a 7, making ideal for all pieces of jewelry.  Colors are caused by various impurities.
