Question: How can you tell the difference between real and fake gemstones?

 

Answer: Some stones it's more obvious, while others are more difficult to tell, since both real and synthetic counterparts have similar optic properties and inclusions usually tell the difference.  It is easier to tell by using optic devices such as loupes, refractometers, for mineral specimens the hardness tests (it is a destructive test, so only do if committed). Over all it takes a good eye and knowledge to tell the difference.
